Stricken once again by how, “New York BAYBEE” this whole book is. Even the extensive passages about Ireland somehow still feel like they’re about nyc

Having slept on it, this book is focused on the cultural heartbeats of the 80s. Not very strictly but. There’s also this sub structure that focuses on New York City. We’re popping out to Dublin and New Orleans and Los Angeles occasionally sure, but we’ve placed the cultural capitol of the world in NYC

The information is good; the narrative passable, but I again have to question the choice of theming as it relates to modality. The book is not a chronological timeline whatsoever. But the twisting narratives of these side by sides doesn’t effectively connect. We began with Leonard Cohen, moved to Czeslaw Milosz, and end with Mr. Berrigan, who we’ve met already. These men have never met! They are unrelated
