Status Updates From Kuleana: A Story of Family,...

The first part of the book really mixes the historical with Sara's family story. Hearing about her trip to Hawai'i with her grandmother, just before 9/11, was fun to hear, especially with trying to note her childhood. In contrast, the pains of the adult world, along with how Hawai'i was losing its culture, really gets to light what's going on.

It is so impressive that young Hawaiians like the guy Sara met on the way to the monument near her family’s Kuleana was able to grow up speaking Hawaiian fluently because of programs to save the language. I want to learn the history of how the language was saved.
