Is it controversial to say I liked it better when they were suffering from body horrors and grief and like it less when there’s a race to hunt treasure from the bad guys

Like I just said, yes, that was badass, but it could’ve been so much more badass if it was foreshadowed better. Not everything needs to be a twist the readers never could’ve predicted! If you only meet a character once, you can’t be prepared for what just happened and have it hit you as hard as it could’ve

I kind of wish there was more foreshadowing for what just happened. Like it’s cool in theory, but it comes out of nowhere with one scene I can think of that sets up a connection between those spoiler-y events. And It was kind of glossed over so I assumed it didn’t matter

Really should’ve looked up CWs before reading because I did not know we’d be dealing with Alzheimer’s as a plot point but man. The author hit the nail on the head for how it feels to live with someone who’s losing themself

I was a little thrown off by the flashbacks at first but the emotional angst is *chefs kiss*

Also we all know that isn’t a normal bug bite, that’s got to be cave residue and now shits going to go down

I have one complaint about the chemistry, though it’s usually pretty good: it seems like Gabe is more defined by his relationship to Phebes than as an individual. Could be the rose colored glasses of her crush on him, but it makes me worry that if he was hiding something or if anything happened to him, things could get gnarly because e don’t actually know much about him except that he’s kind and Phebes likes him

Annnnnnd our MC is going through the same emotional struggle I’m going through right now. Ow ow ow ow ow

I’m liking this so far but oh my gosh it’s nitpick time. The sentence “once red and weeks later a dark purple” is confusing because we don’t know if it’s STILL dark purple. “Once red and *now,* weeks later, dark purple” makes so much more sense. Okay that’s it on the saltiness for now. We’re at page 5 I can’t make promises

Phibs is the POV, Lani is here somewhere, Isabel is tall, Gabe and Will are twins. I am so good at being introduced to multiple characters at a time

Is now (page 3) a good time to say that my debilitating fear of the ocean might make this a hard read for me
