DNF at 75%. I think my main issue was it does an extremely good job of being gangster historical fiction, but I really love multi genre books

Shanghai is like Casablanca in that excellent film: a gathering place for those running from war or trying to make a fortune, for criminals, for the military/police—honorable or corrupt—to make their mark. Everyone struggles to survive.
“‘I saw a kid eat someone’s puke. Some sailor, blind drunk, he pukes all over the road. And the kid eats it. Like it’s the first thing he’s had all day’” (73).

Another book taking from a hotel book exchange (actually a riad book exchange), this time in Marrakesh, Morocco. Once again the only choice in English.
Pretty good so far, decently written… I would have preferred to start with this author’s first book, which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel, but, alas, that was not an option.
