And yes, she conceded that the argument had a specious element to it, but simply because something was self-serving did not make it untrue.

In a prior working life, I would regularly test filaments for their tensile strength, and so what I immediately picture is “Archie”’s arms being mounted in Instron grips and pulled until they broke. 😆

But I guess it makes sense in this context - there is tensile force exerted on his arms because he is presently carrying Lucy. 💪🏽

I know her heart is in the right place, and I can’t help but envy someone who can maintain such a rosy view of life under even bleak circumstances ... but she strikes me as a sort of flibbertigibbet, and it’s a tad annoying. Luuuuucy!!!! (as Margery called out to her on the dock)
