Chapter 8 (“We Don’t Need Another Hero”). Very insightful and sober-minded.

Insanely fire. Horton is incredible in this book. So insightful and incisive. Makes me even happier to be Reformed — not as a badge of honor that makes me superior to those “other” Christians, but because of the way that the emphasis on the ordinary means of grace helps me to live the ordinary, faithful, sustainable Christian life that God calls me to. Every non-denom brother/sister should read this chapter.

“Now that doesn’t mean that what happens at church through these ordinary means in ordinary services of ordinary churches on ordinary weeks is itself ordinary. What happens is quite extraordinary indeed. First and foremost, God shows up.” ❤️

Chapter 2 is fantastic. So refreshing and full of the gospel, and how the peace and security that comes through Christ leads to a life of freedom to love God and others “without trying to score points.”

“”Because of Christ alone, embraced through faith alone, for the glory of God and the good of our neighbors alone, on the basis of God’s Word alone” - and nothing more. This is the slogan of the ordinary Christian (Luke 10:27).”

Gen Z’s epidemic of depression and anxiety is largely because we’ve allowed the restlessness of the world fascination with a quick fix and need for constant relevance to permeate our psyche. Unfortunately, the similar mindset has seeped into the church.
