Status Updates From Following the Clues: A NYT ...

In which, I just want to ask...why does every character I come across in a book who has died from cancer have to have had either a) breast cancer, b) leukemia...please, there are lots of other types of cancer.
As someone who has a family member with leukemia...please do some research and at least tell me which type they have: is it ALL, AML, CML? And whether a transplant was an option! Thank you.
