Status Updates From The Night Watch

I'm sure I could have read more if the loud children's librarian at my local library hadn't been reading kid's books so loud, leading deafening Christmas songs, nor getting the kids to shake jingly instruments as hard as they could at midday. My ears are still ringing and I was at the farthest point away from the din. Why can't adults have an 'adults only, quiet reading room' in my local? Who pays for the library?
