Status Updates From Signs and Portents

Not her best work, by any means... a collection cobbled together to sell on name recognition, more or less. Still a good diversion.

Strange little tales, odds and ends, yet I'm finding them lively and satisfying.

So far liking this much better than the Shirley Jackson collection. Sharper, more vivid, more robust reading, something like that.

Muscling through... its not easy.

Just starting the fifth story. The one just finished is so far the best of the lot.

This is me reading another book that "normally" I would never ever have picked up. The author has always seemed off-putting to me. But I am making great effort to read beyond my usual fare and to Clear Off The Shelves!

There was his mistress lying in bed, Derek thought, swathed to her neck in sheets, and there he was drinking ersatz milk while a machine issued orders. Something had to be done.

His own stern parents had taught him by example that it was necessary to make harsh rules for children. One of his sisters had ended up in the city, at a fancy house, which proved that her parents had been lax.

This is disappointing so far. I haven't liked any of the stories I have read.
