I just finished the last in the series and now want to re-read the earlier instalments.

Caine is quite the drama queen. I wonder if Macklin really wants him if he keeps trying to change Macklin. Funny enough, their relationship seems pretty realistic, just that I guess Caine would totally end up alone in real life.

“Do you know what happens to people who tease me?”
“Th-they g-g-get f-f-fucked?” Caine asked hopefully.

Jesus.

'Would he be on his hands and knees, his ass in the air like in his fevered imaginings, or would Macklin prefer some other position? He couldn’t wait to find out.'

This romance is kinda going down the drain for me. And it started out so good....

“So what happens now?” Caine asked slowly. “We seem to have reached an impasse.”

I'd suggest some plot instead of sex...

“And how is me giving you a hand job different than you giving me one?” Caine asked, still not following Macklin’s argument.

I don't get what Macklin means, either...

Come on, another chapter spent in bed? Please no.

“I’m not hurting you, am I, pup?”
Caine shook his head vehemently. “D-d-d-don’t s-s-stop.”

I'm ashamed to say this amuses me a bit.

'Macklin’s face might hint at his age with the lines around his eyes and the weathered skin, but he had the body of a much younger man, his shoulders broad and strong from a life spent working, his waist trim, the entire ensemble covered in hard muscle.'

Of course I'm waiting for a romance where it says ' he was okay looking for 40, maybe a little flabby, but nothing that diet couldn't fix.' LOL

“He’s a good boy too. Makes me hope history will repeat itself.”

OMG, he knows!!

“What I want more generally is up to us to decide. That’s the beauty of a relationship. It’s not what I want. It’s what we want.”

I'm so gonna write this down. You never know when you need a line like that !

Macklin was going to have to learn how to deal with intimacy outside of bed, and Caine figured the best way to do that was to give him no other choice.

Okay... I wonder how often that actually worked.... Sounds like a recipe for a break up.

“In a minute,” Caine replied, leaning in for a morning kiss.
Macklin didn’t quite dodge the kiss, but he didn’t return it either, not like he had the night before.

Probably morning breath. I wouldn't worry about it. LOL.

“It’s not t-tonight that worries me,” Caine said. “W-will you still b-be here t-tomorrow night?”
“Tomorrow night you’ll be snug and warm in your own bed.”
And where will you be?

“Still cold, pup?”
“Y-yes,” Caine said.
“Let’s try this.” Macklin pushed his bunk right up against Caine’s and spread his blanket over both bunks. “Come here.”

OMG, yes!!

“Lang Downs is the only constant I have in my life. I can’t take chances with that. You know the way out.”

Noooooooo!!!

“That’s not what I meant,” Macklin said. “If we sleep together and it doesn’t work out, what are we supposed to do? Lang Downs is my home. I can’t just go work somewhere else.”

“You’re… you’re this beautiful exotic creature,” Macklin said, obviously struggling to put his thoughts into words. “I can’t stop staring at you, but you don’t seem real.”

Niiiice.

“No,” Macklin said. “I don’t. I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but I don’t ‘get it,’ as you put it. I don’t know how you can uproot your life the way you did and how you can claim such loyalty to Lang Downs after only a month, and because I don’t understand, I’m having a hard time trusting it.”
