Books that cover the same time period and events as others in the series tend to feel like a slog, and given that there's not much outside plot to this one that wasn't covered in the last, I'm... not loving it. Shepherd's characterization doesn't match how he was portrayed in the earlier books at all, Algerone's rage-fest in ch 29 doesn't fit with him supposedly being a psychopath or his plans for his sons... sigh.
