Status Updates From The Sacrificers, Vol. 2

Beatrice’s clothes look like the girls uniform for elementary school here and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s cute though. If anything happened to Beatrice I’ll lose it!

I had this ridiculous theory at the beginning that Pigeon is the Foreman but I don’t think that there are any time traveler elements in this story and it wouldn’t make sense at all.

It only comes out when Soluna is asleep which is interesting. I feel so bad for Pigeon’s family. They took him first, and the flood came and took his brothers and sister leaving only Beatrice. And then the Foreman comes and take her too. I would go insane. I’m glad that Soluna went with her but I can’t see how it will help at this point. I absolutely cannot wait to continue with the next volume!

Help her return to how she was, though I don’t know if that is possible. Another round of sacrifices is insane. But it’ll help I guess. Does the factory still work? I don’t know. Kandod is such a beautiful city! I love the blue hues. I was going to say Beatrice and Soluna’s relationship is wholesome but then the black substance in Soluna came out and turned it to something else. What the hell is it?

I though Pigeon was going to storm in and kill Kronious too but I was wrong. Kronious did learn of his wife’s affair, I think he’d known all along but didn’t want to believe it. And now he wants Pigeon brought to him. Does Rokos suspects the Foreman? I wonder what he’ll do if Soluna was returned to him as she is now, a powerless mortal? I have a sneaking suspicion that he will kill her. Well, unless he could

I don’t know about his other siblings though. And now they’ll take Soluna along with them. I’m very excited to see where this goes. It seems like the next issue will follow Pigeon and it looks like he’s going to face Kronious!

It is insane that Soluna and Pigeon had traded fortunes. That town was horrible though. To go seek help from a temple that has a statue of you at its gate and be refused is crazy. Mortal life sure sucks in Harlos huh? What is that black thing inside of her though? It came out at night and killed everyone in town, it is scary. I can’t believe that Pigeon’s family is alive, at least his parents and Beatrice are

Aquatica didn’t know that the elixir was from children which is quite interesting. I wonder if it will change anything if they knew about it. Luroxum is quite insightful; she figured out what happened very easily. Well, unless everyone knows about Rokos and Luna’s relationship. I noticed that we haven’t saw Soluna in a while now and it seems the next issue will see what she’s been up to.

Pigeon is on an interesting path. It seems like he is going after the gods and killing them one after the other to build a new world. And now he killed Aquatica and Luroxum (Keonious’s wife). I feel bad for Pigeon though. I hope that he’ll find the family and friends and be loved. It is cool that he has Rokos’s powers, I can’t wait to see their fight.

Poor Pigeon! I was right! He was never given a name, poor thing! And now they blame him for the misfortunes that’s befallen their cities after Rokos killed Luna. It is convenient huh? Poor Pigeon. I’m glad that he stood up for himself! I didn’t get overly emotional at finding their house a ruin because I think I’ve glimpsed Beatrice in one of the covers before. It’d be insane if I was imagining it.

“And if you only remember one lesson I’ve taught, remember this: life will eventually shatter you, Soluna. But there is a purpose to the process. Loss by loss, you’ll become what you were intended to be, and take the shape of your true self.”

That was a great issue. I liked the parallel of Soluna and Noom. I feel so bad for Noom. And now her city is being destroyed and it seems not even Aquatica is able to save it. And Soluna, what on earth is that black substance that got inside her? and what does it mean? A new power? Or corruption? Or maybe a little bit of both? I can’t wait to find out. I love this story so much.

Notes:
(1) The new art here looks a lot like James Tynion IV's "Wynd."
- Less heavily rendered and stylized than before and more cartoony.
- There's also not been any gory violence, like before, so that probably contributes to a lighter overall mood.
(2) Soluna isn't as interesting a character as Pigeon.
- Her "Trading Places" inversion of fate has been pretty conventional.

Notes:
(1) Okay, the pace is going much faster now. There's a lot less to explain and a lot less dialogue.
- There's room for character growth, struggle and emotion.
- Now that everything's been built up, it can be torn down.
(2) I wouldn't say things have gotten grimdark, but everything's turned bleak with death, suffering and gory violence.
- Pigeon may as well be BRZRKR.

Notes:
(1) It'll be interesting to see if we'll get more plot in this one.
- Not that the first book was lacking, but it didn't really get going until the second half. First half was a lot of worldbuilding.
(2) André Lima Araújo takes over art at issue #10.
- I doubt it'll be up to Max Fiumara standards. But then, Fiumara's art always felt too dense and muddy for my tastes.
