Authors will say a character is so strong and self-assured yet mae them the STUPIDEST people on the planet

This book is suppose to be set in 1997 South Carolina. Why is the author using the term “bromance”?
No one in the family were skaters which means there is no reason “bromance” should have ever been used. That term did not have a true place in the public lexicon until 2005 at MINIMUM. And she can literally google it. The lazy phrasing and writing makes it seem the author put very little effort in editing

HOWWW many times is the author going to say “XYZ fell asleep in no time”

Cliche phrases are littered throughout this book and it’s so distracting.

JUSTICE FOR DAVID. I cannot STAND how Sparrow avoids any and all hard conversations.

It’s clear SPARROW’S inability to have a conversation both with her FAMILY letting them know he is white AND WITH DAVID by teaching him about her culture created unnecessary drama. Sparrow was out of line for yelling at David.
