A realization for our protagonist and potentially a literal deus ex machina

Unable to figure out where this is going. Seems to be avoiding a lot of tropes.

Almost 1/5 there. Very curious where Ms. Evans is going to take this story.

Very interesting prologue and first chapter. Interesting world and a pretty good motivation for our protagonist. Let's see where it goes!

Almost gave it up after the prologue. Painful. Pretty amatuerish writing (SOMETIMES THE PERSON SHOUTS USING CAPS). I bought this at a con, along with a handful of other books I think, wanting to support some indie writers, so will skim to the end. Somewhat interesting premise - the MC is a girl pirate/bounty hunter trying to work her way up in the pirate/bounty hunter system as if it's all a game. We'll see.

I am trying very hard to get into this, but I keep being put off. It's definitely science fantasy, and I think i'm in the mood for something 'harder', which is part of it. I'm finding it hard to relate to the protagonist. She's unappealing in so many ways. Whiny - half her internal dialogue is 'it's not fair!'. She's bored of her job discovering new planets, she wants to be a pirate! What's to like?
