My favorite poems in this collection so far is Oak—the imagery in this piece is fantastic. I’m now onto Part 2 of the book. While I adored Part 1, I’m finding it a bit harder to connect with the narrator’s perspective in this section. That said, Ghigna’s writing remains as compelling as ever, reminding me that reading is always a subjective experience. I’m eager to see where the rest of the collection takes me.

This morning, I found myself in the mood for poetry and stumbled upon an Advanced Reader Copy of Southern Bred by Charles Ghigna. As a Southerner myself, I felt an immediate connection to these verses—there’s a deep-rooted familiarity in them. While not all of these experiences mirror my own, I recognize them in the boys I grew up with. Nostalgia lingers on every page.
