I'm shocked that I am almost a third of the way through. So little has happened. Everything interesting was been described in the past tense as a memory, reducing the stakes. Thus, no true action has occurred yet.

Please tell me the foreshadowing is a misdirection...if the twist is this obvious, I'm going to be pissed
