the five page chapter I just finished is what i was hoping the entire book would be like. unfortunately the best coverage this book gives of the actual operation of the phone line and the experience of its volunteers is the chapter on prank calls

this would’ve been really meaningful to me when i was 18. but for current me it just reads very rudimentary. not bad but not what i was hoping for
