Overall I loved the ch Revolution but it ended on such an odd note. The author tries to use as a metaphor her brother’s battle w/sickle cell anemia in comparison to Black peoples’ activities in various revolutions..it just doesn’t work. on top of that when she referred to his honorable service to his country in the Middle East…that was so jarring after reading the otherwise radical perspectives on revolutions

Just reading what I imagine might be one of the best historical accounts of La mulâtresse Solitude. The author weaves in the one contemporary account with other sources to create a narrative, also citing oral histories. There is nothing said that is unsourced or otherwise demonstrably inaccurate. It’s very compelling!
