Status Updates From French Lessons

I'm at 74%. The reader has witnessed Vida talk to four people in France. The taxi-driver knew a few words of English, but not a lot (odd that). Renee speaks English and French. Renee spent portion of childhood in England. She taught Effie English. Therefore Effie knows English. The 4th person Vida has spoken with, was a cafe person. And they spoke French. Um. hmms. I expected to be outraged by the language choices.

I'm oddly quite happy at the moment. For an odd reason. Vida finally cleaned herself. I thought she might have tossed hygiene when she left her medical career. There were many occasions wherein she is described as changing her clothing. Waking up in the morning, putting on clothing, going to do stuff outdoors. Arriving in her room. Changing her clothing. Etc. But she finally actually took a shower. See, odd happy.

Sweetie is used 29 times in this book. I despised it the very first second I saw it tremble out of Renee's lips. That's something you say to a dog. Or a small child. Or an elderly person whose mind has gone. Or, grudgingly I say this, to a sweetheart. Vida is none of these things to Renee - at first usage of the word.

hmms. Some things are working against me liking this book. (1) woman who seems to prefer being alone wakes up in a new place to find a gorgeous woman bending over her. Naturally she aroused instead of afraid/angry/etc.; (2) for the love of all good - stop saying sweetie!
