Status Updates From Mayra

Over half of this book is specific memories from her childhood with Mayra but now she can’t remember anything specific?

This is incredibly dull. The diary entries? What are these supposed to be adding to the narrative? I groan every time I see one coming up on the page. There is nothing in them that makes me care about anything. I don’t care about this girl’s day of work at the hotel or how she hung out with her friend and talked about snow. This book is so lifeless.

My Libby app says I’m 79% of the way through and I have yet to pick out a single part of the plot that could even remotely be considered the point of this book

Very uninterested in the vignettes that break up the current day narrative. I want to know what’s happening right now instead of being told about childhood anecdotes every other paragraph. I understand what’s it’s trying to do—build out these characters and explain their past dynamics in order to build intrigue around how they interact now—but it’s, frankly, uninteresting and disruptive to the narrative.
