I’m happy he’s also captured some of the context of how the algorithm is determining our language for us to some extent but also is kind of egalitarian because it’s normalizing and platforming alternative language…but also it is kind of a problem to start to lose the plot of who is actually driving shifts in language…I think older people should really read this

A bit hitting the nail on the head so far. Feels a little un researched in terms of looking at words coming from different sub cultures vs assuming they came from tik tok because they are funny. For example pg 49, “since the jokes were funny, the meme templates spread, and the meaning of function changed.” Function is used widely across non-Euro subgroups in the US & abroad for parties and this is where it began
