I don’t know if this is the right book but I’d love a deeper dive into specifically the context and effects of age gap couples with a young Asian girl. I don’t know too many off the top of my head though

The end of this chapter starts to pull back the layers so we can see Kaila without the Kaila image

Is Kaila going to address the Tiara hate here? I’m not sure if there’ll be a come together type moment, but I hope it’s not these two hating each other forever

As someone who somewhat grew up in a place with a number of Asians/Asian Americans, California AAPI culture baffles me. Like what do you mean there 25,000 people at that import car show?

It’s nice that Kaila brings up that she learned from her mother, even if it wasn’t verbally taught

I love it when musicals are in books. But not line this. At least Miss Saigon gave Eva Noblezada a platform to shine?

Also if seductive sex object is the only representation people have about geisha and Asian women, they’re bound to assume that’s the norm. The book briefly touches on this, but I wanted to address it more. Media representation does mean something. It’s not everything but it can have an impact

I’m happy there’s a footnote about how these Chinese and Malaysian actors were cast as Japanese and how that shitty

So far Kalia seems self aware. Acknowledging her father did his best but it wasn’t enough. Reframing it as feeling like she’s being ignored. From one person who has gone to therapy, I see you

It’s really a painful read. I am in like a culture related field and I don’t know if I feel this competition or fear of my asianess maybe it’s a sign of progress and if I was born 20 years earlier I would’ve felt similarly. I do consider plastic surgery all the time but I don’t think it’s because I hate being Asian

Mmmm still triggered but also am I an ABG? Am I falling victim to the fetishization of Asian women? I just got eyelash extensions it’s stressing me out
