Status Updates From Perdido Street Station

I'm on 2/3 of the book and felt am urge to post an early review because in the middle of the climax we're suddenly introduced to another piece of lore, and another one, and learn about another race (this information will not be useful for the plot) isn't it too late though... It's so off putting, when I'm intrigued about all the tragedy of Lin's story there's another piece of lore out of the blue like dude come on
