Status Updates From Her Rustanov Bully

This is the first time I'm finding a Theodora Taylor book hard to finish. The dialog seems to be dragging. I like the updates on the past characters tho, and she's hinting at a story with a secretly pregnant girl who left a German boyfriend.

Listening to the audio - wild how many plot turns this has taken? I put up my hands and said, stop, I don't want this new character/new problem. So many external things and I need the focus on the couple. This is just feeling quite long.
