Oh, I like Zahra and the world that Eliza has found herself in.

The professor’s gone insane, Eliza’s missing, the books are portals, and now Milo has unwittingly joined a group of warriors in a grey world.

It’s never a good sign when the person guiding you gets a malevolent grin and is excited about finding some hidden. Milo and Eliza are both naturals with their weapons. And Eliza, as long as she gets that same drive she does in basketball, can make a pretty clean shot.

He may be distrustful and possessive—elements of youth—but his video game experience gives him the problem solving skills to analyze the world around him and his sketchbook brings him balance. Grounds him.

Milo has some serious trust issues, but he also seems to think Eliza would be, in any way, interested in a relationship with the professor that was anything more than friendship or that of mentor/tutor.

Involutia. The man who calls himself Professor Quigley, but only because he found books written by the man. He’s been there for year and doesn’t know how to get back to the world he came from. But at least he has answers and experience. Something Brooks and Milo need desperately right now. And what is that creature in the Hollow?!

I love how Milo is described. He’s such a gamer, and an artist, so completely lost in his own world that it’s more the disruption of being jarred from his thoughts that upset him more than anything else. And then he too found the book Involutia. It’s exciting!

her home life and her difficulty in school. Here’s the truest truth about school—of any kind—that I could ever tell you. You ready for it? A teacher can make or break the class they are teaching. If the teacher can’t connect with the student(s) and make that course material exciting, it will fall flat every time. 3/3

and at the end of the chapter—mystery! Y’all know how much I love mysteries, especially when they come with an edge of the paranormal. And all of the stuff in between that gives you insight into Eliza’s inner world, her family and friends, 2/3

This book may be written for middle school readers, but true to Brittni Chenelle, it has a little bit of everything for anyone who would pick it up. Already, in the opening chapter, we get to see a basketball game written (from the feel of it) like someone who’s played the game herself; 1/3

That opening poem is powerful and haunting! Anyone who skipped it needs to go back and read it!
