What's struck me most so far is how open-minded and respectful Ash is toward the people she's writing about, even when their conservative Christian views sit in real tension with her own. She doesn't flatten anyone into a position to argue with, there's a genuine curiosity in how she listens, even to the parts of their faith she clearly doesn't share.
