Have you told Gil about Ari the imaginary fake boyfriend? No. And talking of which he could have 'broken things off' between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That went from 0 to 60 in the space of 2 days. And that might have worked in another book but Gil grief was all consuming at the start of the book and this sudden turnaround feels wrong. This needed a slow burn and a lot more pages.

Honestly, nobody moves to a small town and opens a store and then expects to fade into the background. Does Gil not read or watch to? Small towns are an hub of gossip, murder, or sexual shenanigans. Everyone knows that.
