Status Updates From Dead Below Deck

I was really actually loving where this was going. But I cannot do endings thst dont resolve the primary tension. Go to the police ffs

You can’t end it like that!!

My theory was correct. Partially. I’m having an “I knew that door had a lock on it!” moment. I knew the art studio interior design was brought up for a reason!

God, I wish we got more of Rita. I had so many suspicions about the crew and their potential mistreatment/what that could cause them to do

I have a theory snd I think it’s about to be confirmed

I’ve given this book a hard time for all the little things, but the intrigue? That’s solid. I can forget about the diary prose and the way it unfolds backwards without warning and the police interviews being spaced far apart, but at the end of the day I love a good brain teaser

Here’s the thing. The inside jacket description told us thst even the crew could be in on it, but we’ve barely seen them outside of mild suspicious encounters

This is a cool twist, but I wish it had been set up earlier. Everything’s been so set in stone as we go reverse chronological

Well. If we were to tier rank my expectations, this wasn’t one of them. The return to present time is nice but oh my god

OH HOLY CraP

Oh crap

Oh, this hurts me emotionally

It’s all falling into place

I feel like this description is so similar to a previous one

This Kenny guy is currently more interesting to me than anyone else. Get me a book about Kenny closely dodging tourist murders. I want to see this tough repair guy dodging mean girl murder bullets it’d be so funny

I’ll give the author this: they used the Death tarot appropriately. It doesn’t always mean literal death. It’s all up to interpretation

I’m so thrown off by the “ha ha” typed out. But the mystery is intriguing, so ignore all my complaints, I’m here for thr grand reveal

If there’s one thing I can say about this book, it’s that people don’t usually write diary entries like this. Maybe the author does? But it’s very conventional fiction prose, it doesn’t have the diary writing feel.

I don’t think people write diaries like this

Thought I could read this in a day. Nope. Slower going than I expected

…I don’t know how to interpret that line. It feels vaguely offensive and I don’t feel like the weird one for pointing it out

…maybe I should reread with the knowledge that this book is reverse chronological
