Status Updates From How to Read a Book: The Art...

There's a lot in this book on separating fact from opinion, how to give valid critique, and vsussing out whether the author is uninformed, misinformed, or operating from flawed logic. This ought to be required reading, but, you know, it's higher than a fifth grade reading level and people would just ask AI to summarize it or look for a TikTok that explains it for them. I weep for humanity.

Secret agenda: I'm not just reading this to increase my understanding of what I read, but also to improve my own writing. If I know the things I should look for, I can make sure those things stand out on my work.

There was an article in Inc. magazine recently about how people on TikTok are building "personal curricula" to stave off brain rot. Funny that they're doing this on TikTok. That's what I'm really doing here on Goodreads, and Letterboxd, and in my journals. I picked this book as a tool to help me in these explorations. Pick a topic you're interested in. Read a book, or several, about it. Watch docs. Write about it.
