I'll probably finish it by the end of the day. Part Two, called 'Politics', has been slightly less compelling for me than what was in Part One, 'Protest' - partly because I am not politically-minded in any kind of positive way...but this is where John Lewis's life naturally went, and I'm here for the details. It has still been interesting...and less violent, thank goodness. A terrific read.

Every now and then, a success breaks up the routine of beatings, jailings, murders, and assassinations…sort of “two steps forward, one step back with a new head injury requiring stitches.”. This is quite the life. Force of Nature people are amazing to read about.

I’m up to 1962 or so, in this book, and Lewis is about 22 years old. Even if he had done nothing else of importance beyond this point, he would still be impressive. I’ll assume he’s just warming up…

Okay, so he was a born bookworm - I like him already. Very purposeful and forward-thinking at a young age. Headed for an education in Nashville, as of the end of Chapter One. We didn't get taught about this guy at all, when I was a youngster at school in Toronto in the 1970s-1980s, so this is all gonna be new to me!
