Written like someone who is used to doing YouTube/TikTok (e.g., 1.5 to 2 pages segments). Very much overuses “more on this later” (pretty much every other page).

Decent for someone new to Tolkien, but doesn’t really add much that hasn’t been addressed by Shippey, Carter, & Carpenter in previous bios of Tolkien.

My mum got me this book for Christmas so I’m squeezing one more in for February, which brings my 2026 total to 30 books. (Don’t pay attention to the fact that my reading challenge says 29; one of the books I read was an ARC and it’s not listed on GoodReads yet).
