I am really enjoying this book (obviously - talk about a binge read!), but now I’m trying to remember Bujold’s early standalone fantasy The Spirit Ring, that had a spirit forged into the metal of a ring. Definitely a story of love found during desperate struggle and there was a statue and I’m wondering if TK’s plotting might be very similar… but I can’t remember clearly enough right now

Seeing the crossover w/ Bujold’s Chalion/5 gods books altho it’s like someone took the gods’ symbols and purposes and shook them up. Here the rat god’s servant has dancing rats stitched on his things which w/crows is very much like the Bastard in Chalion, but in Ch, he’s the demon god and the god of all things out of season, here he’s the god of the justice system which there is the Father’s function

“The scholar looked up at him, her face unexpectedly somber. She reached out and clasped his forearm, wrist to wrist. “I know what it is to lose your connection to the people before you,” she said, and he heard the heaviness of that knowledge in her voice, “to come unmoored in history. It’s why I became a historian in the first place. We must help each other find our place again.””

I do not understand why so many ppl, inc’g this narrator who can chk pronunciation, hv trouble saying “anecdote” which sounds exactly like it’s spelld. Most often it’s incorrectly said “antidote” which is at least a word, but this time it was “anticdote” which does a combo to me of 🤦♀️😂. Maybe it was just an audio version of a typo while corrected herself or her brain did a weird combo
