Chapter 2 was very interesting. Hearing about how she moved between so many jobs, from food critic to a private chef, then leaving to go to culinary school. Her mom as MS and she encouraged her to stay at the private chef job but Laurie ended up quitting a few days later for culinary school.

I hope and expect that as terrible as things are right now, it’s kind of a relief and liberation. There’s a reason cops always see a suspect who falls asleep after a rest as a probable guilty party: the sense of relief that the worst has finally happened. It’s universal. It will seem like a long dark night, but it gets better. It really does. You deserve freedom and happiness, and I’m sure you will have it.

Your parceling yourself out to too many people, so that no one gets too much. So no one has any claim on you.

This was the downside of working hard in the shadow of an important man. I should have known better, because l'd spent almost my entire career working in such shadows…Very few people are curious about the unknown women who prop up the work of important men…the end products, credited solely to the marquee men, wouldn't exist without the work of women like me, was both a maddening riddle and a colossal "no shit."
