As it is, I’ll probably end up reading them both after all. But it seems just as easy to start with this one, since it was written first. … wait, oh heck no. They both came out in 2002? Never mind, it’s arbitrary, everything is arbitrary.

I checked out this book and “The Last Days of St. Pierre“ based on reviews by Ozymandius, who has read a number of the English language books about it and given his opinions in depth. I thought I would sample the openings for both, decide on one and nix the other, but as soon as I opened this Scarth had me: “I would have stayed in Saint-Pierre on the morning of 8 May 1902 to enjoy the Ascension Day holiday.”
