Interesting little book...A childrens' adventure novel or adult fantasy? Reminiscent of Watershed Down

I assume that I've finished just the first story arc of the book. While the plot is very interesting and the setting imaginative, the message and philosophy, while extremely intriguing and complex, is a little forceful. Also, there is a lack of detail which makes it read awkwardly and takes away from what might make the story better, disregarding the moral.
