Matthew was rather boring and other than being told he was Scottish I didn't see anything that lent itself to that. No accent or brouge. It was nice to have a less experienced (sexually) hero again which might be the theme for the heroes of this series but aside from that I didn't feel anything special about him.
2.5 stars for this book I think.
Good idea just boring.

I feel like Annabelle is 2 different characters. One where she is very literal like Amelia Bedelia books from when I was a kid but then all the sudden she is all seductressy and knowledgeable in the ways of sex.
Her literalness also seems like the author was trying to write her with a mental/learning disorder and did a poor job of it.

For all the going ons in her head I'm surprised to find her a seductress. This suddenly seems at odds with everything else the author has done in writing Annabelle. This book is not my favorite.

I know she is a "fallen" woman but what exactly was her "crime"? She wasn't a prostitute right? That was the other owner (her name escapes me the moment) and she didn't do the books for the brothel...

I'm not sure I like being in Annabelle's head. It's like talking in circles. I'm not convinced the author isn't trying to portray her as someone with some kind of mental illness that was undiagnoses at that time. Which of course is fine I'm just not sure it does the illness or the issue justice.

I wonder if Annabelle has Autism. She seems to take a very literal sens of things. Of course Autism was not a diagnosis at this time but it is interesting if the author is trying to paint a character with a mental disorder in this time period and how she'll do it.
