Naïve woman getting talked down to by the clever, rebellious man is not a trope I care for. We need more pragmatic female characters 😩

Now I’m confused about the world building - the minor defect women are evaluated for their fertility and kept separate from any men, but she’s surprised that any Elites would “mate” with her? What exactly is the system then?
