Status Updates From The Sundowners

Excellent Australian novel.

Simply a magnificent novel of rural life in Australia in the 1920s and certainly one of the best works of fiction I’ve read. All the characters burst into life off the page ….. mate.

I read this book in school when I was a boy. I can’t recall much of it except that I liked it. Now reading it as a grown up I quickly see how excellent the writing is. The author just described a crown fire that put the fear in me as if I were there. And I have been there. I’m looking forward to taking the whole novel into me.

So, I should be able to finish this sometime tomorrow. I was going to finish all the stories in Future Crimes after that - but I’ll hold off on that until after Against the Day, which I will go to after The Sundowners. The idea is that I usually have three short story collections on the go at once (for dipping into between novels), and I want two out of three to be Horror tales books soon…but I can set that up later.

I love books that take me to Australia, and this one has me riveted.
