The AI isn’t exactly a reliable narrator, but it sounds like Dr. Harris is a much worse person than we see of his personality in the movies.

The AI itself is interesting. While its actions in the film are deplorable, you can sympathize with its desperation while still condemning its actions. Here, it’s more nuanced and I wonder how much of its words are reliable.

“Her fans are not as numerous as those for some movie stars, but judging by their on-line discussions, they are more intelligent and engaging than the fans of certain other celebrities.”

I wonder if Koontz is also a Ryder fan? LOL.

This originally came out in ‘73. They must have updated it at some point (this edition is from ‘93) - it’s talking about Winona Ryder, & she was 3ish when the original book came out.
I thought it was a little odd when it was talking about the ‘net, but then it said it was research facilities connected, so I dismissed it (most people don’t realize how old the ‘net is).
A little disappointed, tbh.

I watched this over the weekend, but never made the connection - I wonder if Koontz chose ‘Alfred’ after Alfred Pennyworth from Batman for the house’s AI ‘butler’.
