The fourth story feels like a homage to HP Lovecraft or Robert W Chambers -- although the ending comes very close to "it was only a dream." I need to think about that one, maybe re-read it to figure out how the author makes it work and not feel like a cop-out. The fifth and final story brings us full circle, with the protagonist of the first story and the 30's noir feel.

A fascinating contrast. In the first story, Metachronopolis is a nightmare of capricious Time Wardens rearrange history on a whim, and the ending suggests it is well destroyed, that humans should not have such power. In the third story, Metachronopolis becomes a metaphor for Heaven, and the son's decision to build the father's monument, a metaphor of Christian faith.
