As it turns out, everything I've read so far is actually just the introduction to what's supposed to happen... dipped into just as many long and convoluted words and sentences and backstories as possible. Also there was just a long-winded explanation of "actually, ancient non-white civilizations cannot have had technological advancements themselves so here's an explanation of how they could see the future". Good god.

This book has gone from boring to excessively boring. It might be of interest to people involved in historical linguistics... even though nothing doesn't sound believable. Influence might have come from Dan Brown's Prof. Langdon, but completely falls short at making his world as vibrant and believable. And then there's the rather cliche "I learned magic from Tibetian monks" (which stops being relevant immediately).

So the third character is also a genius professor, who gave his extended backstory, where basically he discovered ancient mystical temples with devotees that could do magic and that have access to books more ancient than we can imagine... but it all burned down and he could only save one book. Also there are zombies now. I'm confused, bored and unimpressed, but I only have 80 pages left so I might as well read them.

Oh also - is that just me or did I really read a passage that sounded like “the world might end because we found out King Arthur (from the legend) was a gay cannibal”???? Hello??? Someone PLEASE explain this to me bc it makes me wish I was Jared, 19.

I had no idea what to expect, and I still don’t. There are two professors (both definitely Gary Stu’s), and there has been only waffling and back story, and they’ve both gotten a letter inviting them to a nightclub. The writing itself is very convoluted, like the author is trying to sound intellectual. I really hope all that will change, because I’m 1/5th of the way in and... well, when is the story going to start?
