He does such a terrible job of setting the scene and keeping you there. Multiple times I’ve been brutally reminded it’s the middle of December and the 1950s, neither of which make sense

It’s so weird, because there will be stretches where the writing is so choppy and not great, and then I’ll get to a spot that’s so wonderfully written. If it’s an artistic choice, it’s not a very good one.
