All done! Really cool read in the sense that I don’t know much about what it was like to be queer in an earlier New Zealand. Our queer history is awesome! But also sad etc. One take away is how good they were at community building! Mands said the difficulty in building community now is an indicator of late stage capitalism - great!!!!!

Crazy that there were multiple lesbian specific bars/clubs/cafes in Pōneke around the 1960s, but not a single one now??? When half the city is sapphic?? Needddd to attend the Let’s Be In cafe on Willis street! Bring her back!!

such a gorgeous book and even more special to have met Lois in person and imagine her writing it. was a bit dry at first to be honest but the second half was way easier to read. i’m honestly quite jealous of the lesbian community in the 80s and 90s in welly, they had so many bars and clubs and magazines and cool things that we’ve just lost now and replaced with the internet :,)
