This book is intense but the writing is amazing…

I was wondering how the book was going to handle the conundrum of why and how the jaded, very much adult hero would go from meeting a mute, horribly abused, visibly teenage girl, to wanting to stick his dick in her. Turns out, it just doesn't. At one point he just started talking about her beauty, which honestly makes him sound more like a creep than anything he's said and done prior to now.

Jesus fucking Christ, Ezekiel really just won't stop repeating himself. It feels like each of his chapters is no more than a handful of paragraphs, but over and over and over again.

"she taps my arm again, like a child silently asking an adult for ice cream." Oh, it somehow makes it worse that he ACKNOWLEDGES that she's basically a child.
