I’m reminded of a message to philanthropists [from MLK] exactly 50 years ago as he and so many others prepared for the. Birmingham campaign. “Philanthropy is commendable but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.” These words still challenge us today. Not to be smug in our privilege nor comfortable in our abundance.
