Status Updates From El club de la buena estrella

This book reminds me so much of Min Jin Lee’s writing, especially Free Food For Millionaires.

I’m not super invested in the story, but Amy Tan’s writing is so lush and addictive. The writing is what really draws you in. I’d probably be more into the story if I had a connection with China and Chinese culture.

Again I am a VERY white lady, but even I know that you don’t deny seconds when eating cooking from a mother especially not a Chinese mother (or Mexican mother) or auntie! And the soy sauce oh god, you should never do that with ANYBODY

Maybe reading Asian literature is my exposure therapy to get me to eat Asian cuisine again since I haven’t been able after food poisoning myself with a poke bowl (yes Ik not Asian but it was with edamame, kimchi, teriyaki sauce and rice which are all in a ton of Asian food I eat) but reading descriptions of dim sum, Bao, Thai noodles, and dumplings makes me want some so bad but if I see or smell it i still get sick
