Status Updates From Detained: A Boy's Journal o...

Picked this up as part of my goal to read a few books in honor of Hispanic Heritage month and have already several times. 🫠

“since getting to los estados unidos, it’s has seemed like on one will ever notice your suffering unless they are suffering, too.”

yeah… unfortunately that’s how it is america.

there are so many gut-wrenching quotes in the book so far, but the one that keeps sticking with me is how much hope D had in the united states system.

"i'd expect that in los estados unidos, la migra would be welcoming, unlike in mexico. maybe we were just unlucky we ran into this one mean agente. but why wasn't the one in the other truck doing anything to stop him?"

“i’m sad all the time, too, but i’m also tired, so i don’t have the energy to act sad, if that makes sense… and him (miguelito) and caramelo (dog) are all i have left. other than that, i’m alone all the time.”
