I just wanted to be like every other girl. Or what a girl should be. Easy, low maintenance, chill. Pretty much everything I’m not.”

Why are you doing this to me? Why can’t I stop thinking about Aaron? And why do I keep ordering stuff from Amazon that I don’t need and can’t afford?

One look at the thing and Cora knew she was going to have to stay up all night vigilantly monitoring it for signs of malfunction and potentially saving everyone from burning to death in a tin can.

Aretha Franklin? That the Queen of Soul had entered this conversation was such a level of stunning irrelevancy that Cora came close to exploding into laughter. Or maybe that was also the hormones.

“Oh, Cora, my dear, poetry is like life. There’s no way to do it ‘right.’ Which is the bad news, I suppose. But the good news is, there’s also no way to do it wrong.”

okay, this book is starting to touch me on a bit of a personal level because 1. lincoln reminds me of my ex (definitely reflects in his relationship with his mother as well) and even though im over him, its breaking my heart a little.. and 2. cora's abortion and the situation with her mom made me realize why im scared of having my own children someday. i can connect with cora on a personal level 🙂↕️
