"Each group of 8 ones and 0s is called a byte. 1,024 bytes equals a kilobyte, 1,024 kilobytes equals a megabyte, and a gigabyte is 1,000 megabytes." p.84

My question is, why are 1,000 megabytes equal to a gigabyte, and not 1,024? What is the rationale?
