When he stood the blood rushed from his head with a pounding force, and he painfully remembered the night before. He felt desiccated. His eyes ached.

Dude's hungover and the author is addicted to her thesaurus. Wouldn't 'his mouth was dry' sound more natural and hangoverish than, he felt 'dessicated'. The language seems a bit too wooden and overwrought. Or maybe I'm a grouch.
